Damaged nails after UV foils? And wondering what you did wrong?
Damaged nails after UV nail wraps? Are your nails thin or split? We debunk the 3 most common myths about damaged nails after UV wraps. Learn how Swiss award-winner MANIFIX protects instead of harms your nails and how proper removal changes everything.
Do UV nail wraps damage nails?
Generally speaking: UV nail wraps are not all created equal. Some keep your nails healthy, others don't. With MANIFIX, your nails stay healthy. Here's how.
Why this is the case and what you can do to prevent your nails from getting damaged when using UV wraps in the future.
I keep seeing photos from customers whose nails, especially in the front area, are damaged after using nail wraps. And admittedly, this also happened to me the first time I used UV nail wraps. But since so many women love the wraps and have beautiful, healthy nails even after removing them, I went looking for the reason why and found it.
Of course, every nail is inherently different. Some have very thick nails, while others have very thin and brittle nails. If you fall into the latter category, it's very important, regardless of the wraps, to take care of your nails, moisturize them, drink enough water, and take appropriate supplements that support your nails from the inside out. I would also recommend a break of at least one night between wrap changes and to nourish your nails well with nail oil during this time. However, since the wraps stabilize your nails, if you like long nails, I wouldn't take too long of a break, otherwise you run the risk of them breaking off.

But now to the real topic: Why are your nails damaged after using UV nail wraps, even though everyone says that nail wraps don't damage natural nails?
Firstly:
UV nail wraps look "comparable" from the outside, but they differ greatly from competitor to competitor. Some can damage your nails.
With MANIFIX, however, your nails remain healthy.
Most of the time, it's actually because you removed the nail wraps incorrectly. And that's despite using oil and a rosewood stick! But why, and what's the right way to do it?
The biggest enemy of the adhesive under the nail wraps is fat. If you remove the nail wrap without or with too little fat, your natural nail will be damaged. So far, so clear!
The rosewood stick is a good method if you're applying wraps for the first time and just want to see if nail wraps are even for you.
However, the rosewood stick also has disadvantages, especially if you have sensitive nails.
1. As the name suggests, the rosewood stick is made of wood. Therefore, the beveled side is also rougher compared to, for example, a silicone stick. Especially sensitive nails or very thin nails, whether due to previous salon nails or because they are naturally so, suffer a bit from the texture of the rosewood stick. A silicone surface is much gentler and kinder to the nail.
2. Another point is that the wood of the rosewood stick absorbs a lot of oil that actually belongs on the nail and is essential for gentle removal. Even if you use enough oil, tendentially less and less oil reaches the nail to dissolve the adhesive. In contrast, a silicone stick naturally absorbs no oil and transfers 100% of it to the nail.
3. The rosewood stick is static. That is, not flexible. Many customers work their way from the side of the nail, from back to front, towards the tip. However, since the stick, as mentioned, is static or stiff, your hard wrap in the front area is automatically lifted off due to the angle of the rosewood stick. The problem with this is that at this point there is no oil on the adhesive, and your natural nail in the front area is therefore damaged.

How do I remove UV nail wraps correctly without damaging my natural nail?
If you have sensitive nails, I generally recommend using Manifix's Remover Set. Why? Because, as already described, the silicone head is much gentler on your nail than wood, and it's long and flexible. This changes the angle, allowing you to work the oil much further under the nail without the wrap automatically detaching at the front. I also recommend warming the nail wraps slightly under warm water beforehand.
You can find the exact procedure in the following video: Initially, I wasn't at all impressed with the silicone stick because it felt too long and flexible. But when I started researching the causes of damaged nails after using UV nails, I realized that the Remover Set is an absolute game-changer and keeps your nails much healthier because the removal process is much gentler on your nails.
